Kalamkari Painting



Hand printed designs with beautiful colors on textile, Kalamkari the art of doing this beautiful work is growing famous day by day.

Literal meaning of Kalamkari is to draw with a pen. Widely done in southern part of India, Andhra Pradesh, this art has gone through a long way to stand times.

This art of hand printing started with depiction of Hindy Mysthology on clothes, and then it flourishes to modern designs too. Stories of Ramayana, Mahabharata, and other Hindu epics are a general drawing styles.


Kalamkari is done on cotton clothes, which is immersed in natural liquids to give it glossiness. Drawing patterns with a bamboo pen are the next step on the clothes. Colors are applied through vegetable dyes. Throughout the Kalamkari process an approximate of 20 washes take place and only natural dyes are used.


Now a days, other than hand printing block printing is also used in Kalamkari Paintings.Beautiful and decorative art of this hand printing on cotton textiles is here to stay for years to come.
